SEISMIC HAZARD MAP OF AFRICA
According to seismo info the attached Seismic Hazard map of
Africa is Based on instrumented records since 1890, and historic records from
the past 2000 years.
UPDATE: SEISMIC EVENTS IN REGION LAST NIGHT, THIS MORNING
According to
the USGS a M 4.9 tremor occurred earlier yesterday morning, at approximately 6:11 AM
(CAT) in the ocean between South Africa and Antarctica. Its USGS coordinates
are 53.366°S 25.362°E, which is 2228.7 km SSE from Cape Town. Fortunately the
earthquake seems to have had no impact on the South African coast. According to
the Geological Society of South Africa, these incidents are not uncommon.
This
is in addition to last night's (21:55) earth tremor with a preliminary measure
of 4.6 magnitude, which according to the USGS occurred 137km SSW of Letlhakane
at about 22.553°S 25.051°E (± 9.0 km). It depth is estimated 13.7 km (± 4.4).
The
latter tremor's epicentre was in approximately the same region as Monday's 6.5
m earthquake and Wednesday's 5.0 m aftershock.
