Couple Imprisoned 55 years for poaching.

A business man Peter kabi 45 and his wife Leonidia Kabi 46 have been convicted 55 years by kisutu resident Magistrate’s court over poaching charged with 212 pieces of elephant tusks and five elephant bones valued at over Tanzania shilling 2bn/- in Tanzania

The magistrate sentenced each of the convicts to 15 years in jail for leading organised crimes, 20 years for unlawful possession of the elephant tusks and other 20 years for unlawful dealings in government trophies.

Convicts will be behind bars for 20 years only as the magistrate order their sentences on each count to run simultaneously. Earlier, the prosecution team told the court that the couple committed the offence of leading organised crime on diverse places on October 27, 2012 in Dar es Salaam and Iringa regions.

The prosecution claimed that the duo dealt with government trophies without a permit from the Tanzania Director of Wildlife.
