GOVERNMENT IN BOTSWANA TO COMPENSATE FARMERS WHOSE CROPS HAVE BEEN DAMAGED BY ELEPHANTS


Government is said to have taken a decision to compensate farmers whose crops have been damaged by Elephants.


Speaking to residents of Mabolwe village in the Bobirwa area, Minister of Justice, Defence and Security Shaw Kgathi explained that government has also appointed a task team made up of ministers Patrick Ralotsia, Tshekedi Khama and himself to assess damages made by Elephants on Crops countrywide.
Kgathi told residents said the government has also decided to hire wild life officers to assist in controlling the movement of Elephants.
He said government will also purchase Choppers to be used by the department of wildlife to control movement of Elephants.
Residents welcomed the decision took by the government as the Elephants have badly damaged their crops in this ploughing season.
